The main surprise for Alasdair, a matinee of Oh Mary! I had contemplated getting tickets when we were in New York earlier in the year but never got to it, so I was thrilled that it was opening here. Between booking the tickets and actually going, I saw someone describe it as very Tina Fey, which sold me more than I already was. They’re not wrong! A one act riot, with proper “two doors into the room” farce energy and a wildly compelling performance from Mason Alexander Park in the title role. There’s a moment towards the end which I wish had been the ending, but we’d have missed the cabaret performance, so swings and roundabouts. But a lot of fun, which some bits I definitely didn’t see coming. A triumph to be sure.
