Joseph Morpurgo - Soothing Sounds For Baby

Soho Theatre, 2025-12-13

Oh man, I was so excited when this was announced. Soothing Sounds For Baby, now 10 years old, is one of my favourite Fringe shows I’ve ever seen (although, full disclosure, this was pre my Fringe-going days, so it was actually a preview at ARG). It has loomed large in the memory, and to get the chance to a) see it again and b) get Alasdair to see it, a treat. Thankfully, time and memory have been kind, because it absolutely holds up. I remembered details of a few bits but very little of the rest, and it was belly laugh funny on a second to second basis. Incredibly inventive, narratively and thematically dense, and does something really fun with the form. Alasdair remarks afterwards that he always assumed I got my style from Repertoire, but that now I make a whole lot more sense. Can’t deny the charges. Morpurgo teases at the end that a new show is coming in 2026, and I cannot wait.
