‘Tis Boxing Day! And so, somehow not still full from yesterday, off to The Cricketers in Redbourn we go. It’s ever-so-slightly elevated pub food, just about escaping the “pub cook wants to prove he’s more than that and fails” trend that is all too common these days. Black pudding croquettes are quite well matched with a piccalilli, making it feel oddly old-fashioned. A pub classic of bangers and mash with an onion gravy for the main, and decent sausages at that too. A brownie hammers the final nail in, though, and it’s pretty good if not mine. Still, time to waddle home in good spirits.
