Mildred's

London, 2025-12-13

Capping off the day of surprise activities before Joseph Morpurgo, a reliably vegan meal from Mildred’s, a fun throwback to our very first London date a few years ago. Standing around and silently tutting to ourselves seems to have inadvertently (yet accurately) given them the impression that they need to be quick on the service for us, because once we’re actually sat down, it’s pretty smooth sailing. Some mushroom arancini with a chipotle ketchup are actually quite good, and my not-quite-chicken caesar burger conforms to the stereotype that chicken is the easiest thing to fake. A caesar salad has lots of punchy flavour, and so long as the chicken can act as a vessel for that, we’re all going to get on just fine. Dessert is disappointing, with a sticky toffee pudding that is texturally disconcerting, both crumbly and mushy at the same time. The apple compote and sauce is good, though, and I polish that off with the ice cream. It’s not the best vegan meal I’ve had this year, but it does the job.
