The Healer family traddition of a “day after Boxing Day” trip to the theatre continues unabated, even in the face of an unprecedented festive absence on Clo’s part. Alasdair, though, gets subbed in to maintain the vegan quotient if nothing else. Having greatly enjoyed The Play That Goes Wrong in the same slot a few years ago, a staging of Christmas Carol Goes Wrong seems the obvious choice. It’s important to preface this by saying that I did enjoy it, but I can’t say that it’s my favourite Mischief Theatre production. Moreso than Play or Peter Pan Goes Wrong, it spends too much time outside of the play-within-a-play itself, which isn’t really what I’m here for. It lacks for ambitious set pieces (but, to be fair, it does not want for ambitious pieces of set, incredibly well teed up in act one) and doesn’t quite achieve escape velocity in the same way. But it’s consistently funny, and fits the bill.
