1000 Tiny Birds: 2025 edition

Bristol City vs. Leicester

Ashton Gate Stadium, 2025-12-10

I’m as shocked as anyone that going to a football match has made its way onto this list. Alasdair has been meaning to go ever since we moved 10 minutes away from Ashton Gate, and our friends Hugh and Emily kindly got him a ticket for his birthday, and so the four of us find ourselves watching Bristol City vs. Leicester. It’s actually a lot of fun! It’s so disconcerting there not being any commentary, but I get the hang of it. It’s actually quite an eventful game, all told. Four goals, all in our end. A converted penalty (which I have to not be too excited about because it was against Bristol). I have a drink which, if I hadn’t been told was a hot chocolate, I’d have never identified as such. The crowd, apart from one guy, is genially enthusiastic rather than aggressive, which is nice. I genuinely had a great time and would go back again. Humbling, towards the end of the night, when they announced the attendance to realise that on a Thursday night in December for a Championship League match is higher than the O2 Arena capacity. A side to the country still alien to me.
