I can’t say I was massively aware of Hilda’s Bakery before this, but friends of mine whom I trust around baked goods were very excited they were popping up in COR, and it is just down the road, so I got up early and treated myself to a little reading time. I was glad to be that early, because the baked goods had been pretty much wiped out by 10am. I had a very sticky apple tart tatin with my tea, maybe a touch over-caramelised, but deliciously flakey pastry nonetheless. A mince pie I took home for later was even better, a rich shortcrust pastry of the perfect thickness.
